Highlights from our recent Saturday Gi workshop with Professor Dave Muscat, featuring technical half guard work and a surprise promotion.
This Saturday, Checkmat Orpington hosted an exclusive Gi workshop with Professor Dave Muscat. It was a fantastic opportunity for our members to train with the coach who started my own Jiu-Jitsu journey and to connect with the wider Checkmat team.
Effective Submissions from Half Guard
During the session, Professor Dave shared some highly effective submission concepts from the half guard position. These details will form a core part of our training focus over the coming weeks as we drill and integrate them into our regular sparring. It was brilliant to see our newer students training alongside senior members, absorbing these world-class details and strengthening our team cohesion.
A Well-Deserved Blue Belt Promotion
A huge congratulations goes to Jose on his surprise promotion to blue belt. This step is long overdue and thoroughly deserved after showing consistent dedication, work ethic, and technical growth on the mats. Please make sure to congratulate him when you see him next.
Thank you to everyone who came down to support the event and represent our academy. Rest up over the remainder of the weekend, and we will see you all back on the mats this Monday to start putting these new concepts into practice.
Professor Dave Muscat is the coach who first introduced our head coach to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Hosting him for workshops at Checkmat Orpington allows our students to learn directly from our direct lineage and connect with the wider Checkmat team.
